What Are the Precautions when Selecting End Mills

In order to prolong the life of the mold, the hardness of the material to be cut also tends to increase. Therefore, high requirements are put forward for tool life and processing efficiency in high-speed machining of high-hardness materials. Usually, we can select end mills from three points:

1. Select the type of tool coating according to the type and hardness of the workpiece to be processed. For example, when processing carbon steel and other workpieces with a hardness below HRC40, MIRACLE40 coating from Comprehensive Materials Company can be selected. When processing alloy steel S, tool steel and other workpieces with a hardness of about HRC50, MIRACLE coating can be selected. When machining workpieces with high hardness, you can choose the shape of the tool, the carbide material, and the coating, all of which are MIRACLE coatings for high-hardness machining of high-hardness materials.

2. Select the shape of the end mill cutter neck according to the shape of the workpiece to be processed. The shape of the neck of the end mill is divided into standard type, long neck type and tapered neck type, which can be selected according to the processing and shape of the workpiece. The long neck type and tapered neck type can be used for deep digging, and the interference angle should be considered when choosing between the two. At the same time, compared with the long neck type, the tapered neck end mill has high rigidity, which can improve the cutting conditions and achieve good machining accuracy. The tapered neck end mill should be selected as much as possible.

3. Choose end mills with different ball head precision according to the machining accuracy. The arc accuracy of end mills is usually ±10 μm, but there are also end mills with ±5 μm, which can be selected during processing.
